"The Sower"(8 ft x 32 in)

"The Sower"

The Sower is a memorial stained glass window commissioned by the family of Wm. Harry Moore for the Hillsburgh Baptist Church in Hillsburgh, Ontario, Canada. Rev. Moore was a minister and very active in the Canadian Bible Society which uses the image of the sower as their logo. The traditional image of the sower is here entwined with a double helix DNA spiral which is used as a symbol for all of creation and our interconnectedness with it. As well, various plants are painted into the border. The dedication uses part of a longer prayer and reads,

"I am God's vision and God's ears, so through the harvest of my years, I am the sower and the sown, God's Self unfolding and God's own."

The window was dedicated on Sept. 9, 2001.

Celtic Shield

"Celtic Shield Series I" (14" x 14")
A sandblasted design derived from Bronze Age Celtic pottery. Completed l996.

Jazz 1

"Jazz 1"
Jazz Variations - a new series of works in glass started in the spring of 2002. A desire for more spontaneity in creating with glass led to a more free form design using a liquid resist on flashed glass. These glass elements inspired a playful approach to composition. I mixed and matched colours and shapes and generally had a lot of fun with this. Each piece is unique, made without a pattern. Techniques used include sandblasting and glass painting.

Icon

"Icon"
Small painted panel, completed l999.

Quilting Bee IV

"Quilting Bee IV" (24" x24")
painted, Completed February l998. Five inch squares of vibrant colours are set in a grid and overpainted with a textured design. The border of triangles, reminiscent of the quilt design, "Wild Geese in Flight", further explores and plays with the colours of the main portion. Something to brighten a February day. This piece is part of an ongoing series inspired by quilt designs.

Woman at the Well

"Woman at the Well" (30" x 38")
Sandblasted flashed glass. (detail) Based on an old Celtic legend. In Celtic myth, wells and springs are sacred places. One day Niall, a son of the king of Ireland, was hunting with his four brothers when he came across a hideous old woman guarding a well. As a price for the water from the well, the hag demanded a kiss from each of the brothers. Only Niall overcame his revulsion and kissed her, where upon she turned into a beautiful woman. This old, and some would say cliched, story embodies for me the idea of hidden beauty.

"In the Watery Realm 2"

"In the Watery Realm III"
In Celtic tradition, the salmon is a symbol of wisdom and is considered one of the oldest creatures on earth. Here a spiral of swimming salmon are sandblasted on cobalt blue flashed glass. The salmon are at play in a swirling stream of water tumbling over stones.
